Soccer Success!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

I am so excited to share with you about the impact of the first annual Gabe Schwartz Serere District Soccer Tournament that took place on December 14th, 2016. It was a HUGE success!

When Gabe Schwartz turned 13, he decided to use his Bar Mitzvah as a way to raise funds for soccer balls for the children in Serere.   This project is a GREAT example of how kids CAN make a difference!  He ended up raising enough money to send 30 soccer balls, 4 pumps, and 3 trophies.  It was so many that we decided to make a big event out of it!

That’s a lot of soccer balls!

There were a total of 14 teams that participated in the tournament. They had so many participants that they were able to have 2 different age groups to compete for the boys, and 2 girls teams. So 3 trophies were presented.

DOING SOME DRILLS, WORKING ON SKILLS!

Michael Olobo, the current V2V Director of Operations in Serere, addressed the crowd before the games began. He told them about Gabe and the traditions of a Bar Mitzvah. He asked a 13 year old boy from the crowd to stand, so that everyone could see how a boy as young as this can make such an impact. It was very moving.

The turnout was so big it was covered by 2 radio stations! And V2V Project members were interviewed about V2V Project and Gabe’s role in making this all happen.

The three winning teams received a trophy and each of the fourteen teams received a ball. They intend to do the tournament again next year. THANK YOU GABE for making this all happen! Your project was an AMAZING SUCCESS that encouraged hundreds of village children and teens!
