31 Jan Back to School Excitement

Imagine ordering, organizing and distributing school supplies to over 250 students on two campuses! Yesterday was distribution day. The students received soap, notebooks, colored pencils for the younger ones and pens and pencils for the older ones along with other needed items. The older girls who are in boarding school got menstrual pads and all of the children in the Village2Village Education Centre got their uniforms. But guess what the little boys were most excited about??!! Their cool new underwear!

“Auntie! Take a picture of our knickers!!!” Their enthusiasm was contagious as we all enjoyed their excitement at this seemingly minor addition to their school supplies.

Everything was packed into a plastic bag which is called a Kavera here in Uganda. We all remember that school supply/first day of school excitement and there was plenty of that to go around.

Laurie and I said farewell to the P6 and P7 boarding students who report to school on Monday February 2nd. We will see the secondary students on Monday to give them their gifts and we have all next week with the Village2Village Education Centre students who are in grades P1 – P5. On Saturday the 7th, we will have some time with the rest of our alumni and University students in Soroti.

Our newest students are so excited to receive their supplies!

Even those heading off to the upper grades feel the excitement. This is just one more of the many things our sponsors and Village Partners supply for our children. Having what you need, especially things like sanitary pads and new clean underwear, allows our children to focus on learning. And learning is what paves their way for a brighter future!
