28 Jan Medical Care

A big part of our mission is ensuring that our children are healthy. This requires preventive care as well as treatment. Each student receives an annual medical evaluation that includes a physical exam, blood work, a dental check and any treatment that is indicated.

We are always grateful to have our own students who are preparing for careers in the medical field helping with these exams. Akello Ann Margaret is doing her nursing internship in the Kateta clinic and supervied the intake of our students in her clinic. Okileng Brian is a lab tech and assisted with the testing of blood in the Serere clinic.

Our medical care also provides treatment for diseases, usually malaria, but also much more serious situations such as Sickle Cell and HIV. This is an example of a time when we work closely with the guardians. In the above picture, the mother has brought dinner to her son who is being treated for a fairly serious case of malaria.

The new children have not had much experience with this type of exam, but there is always a lot of encouragement from peers. We love seeing the way the children support each other.

The staff keeps medical records on each child and this information helps guide the care and support each child will receive. Sometimes the exams uncover an underlying condition or new diagnosis. We are so fortunate to have Village Partners whose generous giving allows us to provide extended treatment for challenging situations.

The children and their guardians are so grateful for the medical care they receive from Village2Village Project This care would not be possible without the amazing support of our sponsors and Village Partners!
